Ancestral Cookware works with independent artisans
to produce top-quality organic earthen cookware handcrafted by the
women of La Chamba, Colombia. La Chamba has been a source for
clay cookware since pre-columbian times. The women of La Chamba have
preserved many of their ancient traditions to produce some of the
finest cookware on the market today. Chamba cookware, while
aesthetically beautiful, is also known for its versatile cooking
qualities. A Chamba cooking pot can be used directly on both gas and
electric stoves (diffuser recommended for some electric), in either
home or commercial ovens, directly on the grill or right on a
campfire, and is also microwave-safe.
Located at the
base of the Andes Mountains, La Chamba has an abundance of a
very special food-safe type of clay with a high mica content.
This unique material creates a high-quality cooking surface with
above-average thermal shock qualities. Since ancient times,
families in Chamba have developed blends of sand and clay uniquely
suited for surviving the rigors of direct-fire cooking. Clay has been
used for centuries worldwide to gently nurture the food as it cooks,
and La Chamba Cookware offers a great way to safely sauté,
roast, fry and boil without the use of metal.
